Imail

Important:
Imail was retired on November 19, 2019. You can no longer access your Imail account and its associated services (for example, calendar and contact lists).

You can connect to your Imail account through Exchange ActiveSync (labeled "Corporate" on some devices):

  1. From the Applications menu, select Settings and choose Accounts & sync, Accounts, or Users & Accounts (depending on your version of Android). Then, select Add Account > Exchange or Corporate > Next > Sign In.
  2. Enter the following settings:
    • Username: username@imail.iu.edu
    • Password: Imail vendor password, not your IU passphrase; if you've forgotten your Imail vendor password, or haven't created one yet, see ARCHIVED: Resetting your Imail password.
  3. Tap Next and enter the following settings:
    • Domain\Username: username@imail.iu.edu
    • Password: Imail vendor password (not your IU passphrase)
    • Server: outlook.office365.com
  4. Leave Use secure connection (SSL) checked, and Accept all SSL certificates unchecked. Tap Next.
  5. At this point, you can choose to set your email checking frequency, synchronization preferences, and other options. When finished, tap Next.
  6. Enter a name for your account, if you want; you may also leave this blank. Tap Done.
Note:
If you are having trouble sending and receiving mail on your Android device, you may want to remove the email account and then re-add it. Check your device instructions for assistance.

Umail

Important:
Umail was retired on November 19, 2019. You can no longer access your Umail account and its associated services (such as email or Sites).
Important:
Umail is only for former students who do not have an active status (for example, faculty, staff) and who separated from IU prior to March 11, 2018; see ARCHIVED: About the Umail upgrade. Current students use ARCHIVED: Gmail at IU. If you're unsure about what type of account you have, contact your campus Support Center.

You can connect to your Umail account by signing in through Google:

  1. From the Applications menu, select Settings and choose Accounts & sync, Accounts, or Users & Accounts (depending on your version of Android). Then, select Add Account > Google > Next > Sign In.
  2. When prompted to "Enter your email", enter your Umail username, which is a combination of your IU username and @umail.iu.edu; for example:
      username@umail.iu.edu
    Note:
This username@umail.iu.edu is not your actual IU email address, and you will use it only when you configure a device to read your Umail.
  3. When prompted for a password, enter your Umail vendor password (not your IU passphrase). If you haven't set your Umail vendor password yet, or have forgotten it, see ARCHIVED: Resetting your Umail password.
  4. Tap Sign In. The device will verify your information and update with server information. Once this is complete, the Data & Synchronization options screen will appear. Check the Sync Gmail box, and select any other synchronization options you want. When done, tap Finish, and then Finish Setup.

If you are unable to connect to your Umail account through Google Sign In, your Umail account might be locked out. To unlock your Umail account, see ARCHIVED: Why you can't access your Umail account from a mobile device or an IMAP email client.

Note:
If you are having trouble sending and receiving mail on your Android device, you may want to remove the email account and then re-add it. Check your device instructions for assistance.
