Connect to the IU wireless network in Ubuntu
The simplest and most secure way to connect to eduroam is to use the Eduroam Network Setup Tool. Alternatively, you can use the instructions below to connect manually.
To connect to eduroam or IU Secure:
- Click the NetworkManager applet (a pair of superimposed monitors, typically in the upper bar on the right), and then select the network name (either or ). The "Wireless Network Authentication Required" window will appear.
- Configure the settings as follows:
- Next to "Wireless Security:", select .
- Next to "Authentication:", select .
- Leave the "Anonymous Identity:" field blank.
- Click the button next to "CA Certificate:", and then browse to the certificate bundle file (
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
). - Next to "PEAP Version:", choose .
- Make sure "Inner Authentication:" is set to .
- Next to "User Name:" enter your primary IU email address if you are using eduroam, or your IU username if you are using IU Secure. Next to "Password:", enter your IU passphrase.
Do not check
, as it will display your passphrase in clear text.
- Click . If the connection fails, you will be prompted to re-enter configuration details.
- Click . If the USERTrust certificate is not present, check .
When you successfully connect, you'll see a series of blue bars of increasing height in place of the superimposed monitors.
If you continually fail to connect, try entering your username in both the "Anonymous Identity" and "User Name" fields. UITS has verified that this step produces a working configuration, and it has been shown to solve failures to connect.
