What is UMS?

Unified Messaging Service (UMS) is a voice mail service available for students with local phone service in campus housing at Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI. With UMS, you can store voice messages in your email mailbox, and use your email client or the telephone user interface (TUI) to access these messages.

Note:
If your campus housing residence currently does not have an active telephone line, you must contact your center desk to have the line activated (without fee). For more, see Campus housing telephone service at IUB and IUPUI.

Setting up your account

To create your UMS voice mail account:

  1. Go to the UMS Voicemail page at:
      https://umsweb.iu.edu/
  2. Click click here to create your UMS voicemail account.
  3. Enter your Network ID.
  4. Follow the prompts.

When your UMS account has been provisioned, you'll receive an email confirmation. You can then call the system to set up your account, as follows:

  1. To access Unified Messaging Service (UMS) through the telephone user interface, use the relevant number below:

    • For Indiana University Bloomington, dial 812-856-9800 (from on campus, 6-9800).
    • For IUPUI, dial 317-278-4288 (from on campus, 8-4288).
  2. The system will prompt you to choose a new passcode, which you will enter each time you access the voice mail system from your telephone. Be sure to define a new passcode that is easy to remember, yet difficult for others to guess. Your new passcode must contain seven digits.
  3. The tutorial will prompt you to record your greeting. Callers will hear this greeting when you are away, or when you are on the phone.
  4. The tutorial will prompt you to record your name.
    Note:
You must complete the entire tutorial before exiting the system, or your changes will not be saved.
